Katara Washington Patton is currently the Executive Editor at Our Daily Bread Publishing, overseeing the VOICES Collection and contributing regularly to devotional content. Her editorial career spans major publishers and organizations, including Tyndale House Publishers, Christian Century Magazine, Urban Ministries, Inc. In 2025, she was honored as a trailblazer in ministry, and in 2014, she was named Nonfiction Editor of the Year by the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.
Katara is the author of eight books, with her most recent bestseller, Navigating the Blues: Where to Turn When Worry, Anxiety, or Depression Steals Your Hope, offering practical and faith-based guidance for those dealing with depression and anxiety. Her ninth book will be published in 2027 and it is a guide for mothers and youth leaders who desire to pass along faith to teen girls. Katara Washington Patton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in Mass Communications and English from Dillard University, a Master of Journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and a Masters of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, where she earned the outstanding preaching award.
A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Katara lives in Chicago with her husband Derrick and their daughter Kayla. She is an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, serving as a mentor and engaging in rites of passage ministry. Outside her professional work, she enjoys Zumba classes and competitive games of Scrabble.
